My fave from the album. V emotional right now cause 2NE1 has officially come back and it’s CL’s birthday and everyone is happy and singing and dancing and sighhhhh. teeearsss. A collective hug to all the Blackjacks who have waited 4 years for this moment.
the worst part about this is that when you take other companies into consideration, yg typically comes out comparatively un-shitty. it's awful that treatment like this is standard in kpop talent agencies, and I can imagine this business with 2ne1 is coming as a rude awakening for some fans who may not follow yg as a whole or other agencies.
I know, like YG is or used to be a good entertainment. Look at SM, it’s hell over there whereas YG artists can be ~free~ basically.
I feel like all this started when YG decided to join KBS Superstar. It soaked up all of his attention and energy as he saw a great opportunity to make money AND get new talents with the public’s attention already on them. I think he got too caught up in that to multi-task. I think that is also where he got the idea for WIN from. And it worked, clearly.
Also, he got stuck up. Big Bang brought him great success, 2ne1 brought him great success, the actors under his name, getting Epik High on board, BB’s solo activities, PSY’s HUGE popularity thanks to Gangnam Style. He made so much fucking money out of all of this that he’s surely set for life but I think greed is now kicking in and he just forgets about the well-being of his artists AND the fans. Cause let’s face it, where would any of them be without a strong and loyal fanbase? That’s the sad part.
He KNOWS we will support our favorite band, buy the merch, watch the MVs and go to the concerts if available and that’s how he will win with his fucked up methods and all we can do is complain or sit in silence.
you said before that you’re annoyed by people asking how to get into the industry when the answer is so available. this is understandable. i find, however, that people don’t tend to talk quite as much about the intricacies of their production process — ie routine, motivation maintenance…
Keep doing work. If it’s ugly, don’t show it to anyone. But keep doing work Join a club Attend more social events Get a table in art fairs/events Make money from my work Make bibimbap from scratch Read at least 10 books Experiment with make up Learn to drive Quit feeling awful Look people in the eye Smile more Love more openly Give more hugs
What advice would you give someone wanting to start their career in the arts (photography, film, etc)
You’re going to be making utter shit for a very long time probably, but you have to keep going. You’re going to think you’re the first person to come up with an idea — you probably aren’t. This is fine. Keep working thru it. Break down your ideas to their most basic parts and reformulate. Constantly check in on yourself as to where you’re going, what you want. It’s a relationship with yourself, yeah? I come to art out of personal survival. Be persistent. BE PERSISTENT. You’re not going to make something you’re proud of every time, and if you are……?? Maybe look closer. Maybe you aren’t pushing yourself hard enough.
"But if you look at the people who are consistently achieving their goals, you start to realize that it’s not the events or the results that make them different. It’s their commitment to the process. They fall in love with the daily practice, not the individual event. What’s funny, of course, is that this focus on the process is what will allow you to enjoy the results anyway…"
I keep my art tag full of quotes and inspiration that I pull and think about a lot in. Mostly, I think, you need to surrender yourself to vulnerability and persistence, because you’re going to fail, and sometimes your mistakes will be the best art you make, and you’re going to have to deal with that. Don’t be afraid to reach out and work with other people to learn your dynamic with other people, you might work best in a team, but it’s also important to just work on your own a lot and figure out your own language and references and techniques. Mostly, be prepared to fuck up a lot. It’s a lot of surprises and mistakes.
We teach girls to shrink themselves
To make themselves smaller
We say to girls
“You can have ambition
But not too much
You should aim to be successful
But not too successful
Otherwise, you will threaten the man”
Because I am female
I am expected to aspire to marriage
I am expected to make my life choices
Always keeping in mind that
Marriage is the most important
Now marriage can be a source of
Joy and love and mutual support
But why do we teach girls to aspire to marriage
And we don’t teach boys the same?
We raise girls to see each other as competitors
Not for jobs or for accomplishments,
Which I think can be a good thing
But for the attention of men
We teach girls that they cannot be sexual beings
In the way that boys are
